Let me first start by saying that I only got into indie pop about 6-9 months ago and when I dove in, I got really deep too (Ladies!). All the indie pop/twee pop that I have came directly from Adam, an expert on the genre.

Black Tambourine was an indie pop band from College Park and Silver Spring, Maryland. Members later went on to be in Velocity Girl. Black Tamb has a dark and depressing sound that sets them apart from almost all indie pop. Along with the mood they set, they often have a more atmospheric sound that almost places them into the shoegaze genre (see "For Ex-Lovers Only").

This shit is my favorite material from any indie pop band. On top of that, they are from Maryland (a.k.a. Murdahland). DMV stand up!

Buy Here (This is a new and improved discography compilation with six additional tracks to the one posted here!)

If you haven't already, you should check out some of Pam Berry's other stuff... I like Glo-Worm especially. She also started Chickfactor, which has a lot of awesome interviews with '90s pop bands, some of which are now online.

can you re-up this? just got into The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and every review mentions Black Tambourine in comparison.

Jake - This is still up, actually. Mediafire was on the fritz last night, but this link seems to be working now.

also, they don't sound anything like PoBPaH. i'm not huge on PoBPaH, but their new single on slumberland is perfect. but yeah, Black Tambourine isn't NEARLY as poppy and they are much darker and fuzzier.
