The Earthmen was a Melbourne, Australia indie pop band with some pseudo-shoegaze stylings, which, as you know, is totally up my alley! While I'm only familiar with their early singles and this "album," I would still say that they are painfully underappreciated. While it seems to be considered an album by most, it's practically just a compilation, as all of the songs on this had been released prior to this on the Cool Chick #59 7", the Teen Sensations 10", and the Flyby 7".

"Cool Chick #59" is definitely the best thing the band ever did and I would call it a classic slice of 90s noisy indie pop, which makes sense when one finds out that it previously released with "Momentum" as a 7" on Slumberland. As a matter of fact, the first three tracks of this album are the best, with the jangly "Stacey's Cupboard" and the delicate "Blonde" matching up with the pop perfection of "Cool Chick #59." Unfortunately, the middle of this album drags a little, but picks back up with "In the South" and the single "Flyby." I wouldn't call any of it bad, but some of it is certainly unremarkable and indistinguishable from the rest. Overall, though, while imperfect, this collection is still awesome and I love the Earthmen.
