Last Rights - Chunks 7"

Artist: Last Rights
Album: Chunks 7"
Release: 198
Label: Taang!

Tracklist:

1. Chunks
2. So Ends Our Night

This post is partially inspired by Asa's Dinosaur Jr. post, in which J Mascis and crew cover "Chunks" at the end of their set, as well as by the general awesomeness of this 7". Last Rights are a post-Negative FX band from Boston. In truth, I enjoy the six songs that Last Rights recorded way more than anything NFX ever did, especially this classic 7". Their sound can be described as being oi-influenced, mid-paced hardcore punk, not unlike the slower moments of Negative Approach, as a matter of fact.

Both songs on this 7" are equally perfect. "Chunks" is their most well-known song and for good reason: it's a timeless hardcore anthem about loyalty and brotherhood and whatever else hardcore kids wet themselves over (myself included). The song slowly chugs along with a furious demeanor and just sounds tough-as-hell. The b-side is comprised of slightly-longer "So Ends Our Night," the band's straight edge anthem, possessing the classic lyric: "It's the weekend and there's nothing to do/Gonna hang around and drink a few/Coca-cola!/We don't drink no booze/No way!" On top of the lyrical content, the gang vocals spouting off the title make for an extremely fun ending.

So ends my review, with nothing else to say!

excellent record.
Wish Slapshot had recorded anyhting as good as this. Remember them playing in Germania many years ago; nasty gig, with nazi skins getting the shit kicked out of them
no guts, no glory.

Post all recorded material! Last Rights rules so hard. I have recently gotten WAY into Slapshot well. Choke is a ridiculous character. One of Adam's roommates claimed that Jack Kelly was an edge-breaker (whatever). Except that's not true! To my knowledge...

Adam, you need to be listening to the Neg FX LP more. And ruminating over that clip of them opening for Mission of Burma's last gig. 'Fuck you! We ain't gonna stop.'

LIKE BROTHERS. WE ARE ONE IN THE SAME. WHATEVER WE DO - IS TOTALLY LAME.
