Slavescene - Demo II

Artist: Slavescene
Album: Demo II
Release: 2009
Label: Cult Maternal

Tracklist:

1. Hold Me Nude
2. Invocation Of My Retarded Brother
3. Anxious Muscle
4. Shithead Hevan
5. [Untitled Track]

Slavescene's second demo is the newest material from the band that, if you went to a show on their tour with Nazi Dust (which you should, because it's been really great so far), you might have had a chance to have picked up. Hopefully you did, because this happens to be the band's best material as of yet.

Gone are the heavily manipulated vocals of Heaven Only Knows, which proves to be a blessing, as Trevor's vocals sound crazed and powerful without the aid of modern technology. "Hold Me Nude" and "Anxious Muscle" appear in live form on their split tape with MLU, but in an even better and more blown-out form. The former is quickly becoming one of my favorite songs of theirs, as its one of their most energetic and, believe it or not, catchy songs. The "newer" songs are far from uninspired, as well, particularly the A-side finale of "Shithead Hevan," which features some hard-ass group vocals. The tape concludes with the A-side set played in reverse over the entirety of the B-side. 'Mysterious,' I suppose.

The group is finally coming into their own as a band and is doing something special. While their 7" on Deranged is a blast (and will be posted soon), I actually prefer this demo to that, as the band has developed into something more unique and just plain better than that which was heard on Heaven Only Knows.

This is hands down their finest release yet, and has revitalized my interest in seeing them live this weekend. Great post Adam.

This band killed it on Saturday. Wish I could've snagged a copy of this demo, but I'm really glad you posted it. Anxious Muscle has gotta be one of the most intense tracks I've heard in awhile (though I'll be honest, I'm slightly terrified by the b-side).

Saturday's show ruled. Some of my roommates weren't stoked on it and I even made a frustrated remark into the mic at the end, but it was such a fun night.

As for the demo, I'm sure they'll be doing mailorder eventually.

Show on Saturday was awesome; Nirvana cover was awesome; people who didn't like it just hate themselves too much to admit that they actually love Nirvana. This tape is great, but I actually like the weird vocals better.

I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of this demo at their show in Baltimore. Show was excellent despite being pretty poorly attended. No Nirvana cover for us though. Bummer.
