Groinoids - Radiobeat Sessions 7"

Artist: Groinoids
Album: Radiobeat Sessions 7"
Release: 2008
Label: Fatalist, I Deal

Tracklist:

1. Angel
2. Empty Skull
3. Burn
4. Doy Doy Doy
5. 4.6 Billion Vampires

Recently, I finally procured a copy of the seminal This Is Boston, Not L.A. comp for a good price from my roommate and found myself re-discovering all that's amazing (and, occasionally, annoying) about it. I think I might even like the Jerry's Kids material on this more than the LP. Maybe not, though.

Anyway, I know that there's a lot of contention as to which featured bands are great and which are shit. From discussions with friends, as well as internet research, has led me to believe that most people just don't like the Groinoids. I don't get it! Their song on the comp, "Angel," is one of my favorites on there, and "Empty Skull," released on the counterpart 7" comp Unsafe At Any Speed, is also excellent!

Fortunately, someone at Fatalist and I Deal records clearly agrees with this notion and put out a 7" featuring all the material recorded during the famous sessions at Radiobeat for the This Is Boston. The two best songs on here are those that were actually released, but the remaining three culled from the sessions are still great punk songs. Lyrical content ranges from nihilistic to goofy to "controversial," but is consistent in that it's always angry. Hardcore!

So, if you're a fan of Boston punk history, or just scummy hardcore punk in general, then check this out.

empty skull is definitely the best song off of the UAAS 7" i love that song. i don't know how anybody can not like that band? that radiobeat session is amazing!

and while we're at it what about that Decadence song Slam?! to my humble opinion it's the best song on Boston Not LA. does anyone have any more info on that band and their releases/ recordings? if there are any?

Guido - People are insane. And yeah, "Slam" is a sick song, though I never checked anything more out from them or researched them. Looks like I have something to do for the next few hours!

Anon - They're coming soon, I swear! All are complete, but one.

Glad you dig this record. The band will admit that this record is really not a good representation of the Groinoids sound. 3/4 of the band were in Kilslug (essentially, Groinoids just has a different vocalist) and the Groinoids sound was far closer to noise punk than hardcore.
When we recovered these reels, we found another recording session. 6 more songs that are far more fucked up and twisted than anything on TIBNLA. There is also an unreleased LP that was recorded in the late 80's that is totally killer. If my label ever comes out of hiatus, I'll be releasing an LP with both sessions on it.

Anyway, hope everyone digs it. I was stoked to put it out.

Quinn -

Thanks so much for the background! There's that much unreleased material??? You definitely need to resurrect your label and put that out. I would buy it in a minute.

Hi there,

Thanks for this post. I'm glad to hear these songs. And yes, i think too that the Groinoids'song is by far the best of UAAS. Sometimes i put the 7" on my turntable only to listen to this song. "Angel" as well is really cool.

Cheers
