Artist: Hoax
Album: Demo
Release: 2010
Label: Self-Released
Tracklist:
1. Stuck
2. Dead Weight
3. Suicide Pact
4. Imposter
5. Living On The Brink Of Suicide
Hoax are a new band from Western Massachusetts; they are typically dark for this part of the Bay State but atypically slow, heavy and dirge like. This demo is five tracks of frighteningly self-loathing and aggressive hardcore that is as insecure as it is hateful. Hardcore punk's appeal for me has always been the way it illuminates often ignored and discouraged parts of the brain but this demo reaches new depths. Several if not most of these songs are about teetering on the edge of self-destruction.
Musically speaking the Hoax sound departs from current trends. We have heavy, slower hardcore with crunchy, processed sounding distortion that invokes Cleveland bands like Inmates. Track one, "Stuck," and track five, "Living on the Brink of Suicide" are by far the best songs on the demo, not just because they trademark Hoax's drudging rhythm section but because they are good, smoothly flowing mid-tempo songs. Hoax brings a welcome change to the modern hardcore style. The remaining three songs here are similarly hard and deranged, combining fast parts and breakdowns that chaotically mash together for a seriously headache-y affect.
It only remains to be said that the age 20-something members of this band STILL MOSH. So if you don't know, now you know

re: akahn's pic: jack callahan's gross facial hair spotted.
also, I'm not into this demo at all and continue to be surprised by the amount of attention it's getting. I guess I just don't "get it".
Been loving this demo for weeks.
Thanks for posting these. I also notice a trend in your New Hard New England and look forward to the Hose demo in a few days.
Hey dude! I'm a big fan of the blog and was wondering if we could share each others blogs on our website? Thanks!

By the way, I've gotten a majority of my downloads from this website and it'd be a privilege to have my blog on yours. If there's anyway you could consider I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Glad you're into it! Kind words, indeed. We'll see what we can do!
This is really fucking good. I hate to "steal" it, but I also used this for my blog and referenced yours (http://airaddicts.blogspot.com/). Check it out, thank you for the great posting.
