NYC: Anasazi, Rosenkopf, Teardrops, Zatsuon

Hey everyone, the blog is slow-going yet again because Colman is on tour and my laptop (Lappy Pappy) has died, but we'll hopefully hit you with another barrage of new music, as well as more NYC show listings. Speaking of which, here is a flyer for a sick show that is happening TONIGHT:

Anasazi (I have no idea who this band is. I'm assuming they're not the French prog-metal band that I am looking at on last.fm right now)
Rosenkopf (look out for a 7" and LP on Wierd Records soon!)
Teardrops (Brooklyn trio featuring one of the dudes who do Burn Books)
Zatsuon (noise punk supergroup featuring members of Perdition, Nerveskade, Nomad, and many others you pay too much for their records)

@ Goodbye Blue Monday
1087 Broadway
Brooklyn, NY

Check this show out, locals. Will I be there? Nope! I wish, but I got video games to play...

Support the Roboto Project in Pittsburgh!

We don't normally post about stuff like this (nor will we make a habit of it), plus we hate the idea of Kickstarter, but this particular fundraiser is proof that the website/concept is not inherently evil! The Mr. Roboto Project is a cooperatively run music and art space that has existed in the "great" city of Pittsburgh for over a decade and has remained a mainstay of Pittsburgh punk and hardcore. As far as we know, it closed sometime over a year ago and they are trying to raise funds to complete their move to a new space.

While not massive, the Pittsburgh "punk" scene has produced some of our favorite bands from the past ten years and we know how important this space was to people involved in those projects and others, so we'd like to help out by bringing this to your attention. Thanks and hopefully you find it in your cold hearts to donate.

Tracklist:

Health 7" (Squirrel Heart, 2007)

2. Health
3. In A Land Of Flakes Nothing Sticks

Self Titled 7" (Criminal IQ, 2007)

Facts 7" (Residue, 2010)

3. Historic Landmark

As usual I make a habit of ignoring new music as it comes out. It's always a few years after the fact that I will discover something that excites me - usually during the swan-song stage of band's life. I slept on the first few Canadian Rifle records, but luckily woke up and am happily seeing them next month!

Canadian Rifle are a three piece punk band from Chicago that have been around since 2007. They have released four 7"s, one a split with American Cheeseburger. There sound is reminiscent of American punk monolith Dillinger Four, minus the sing-along style plus big, washy chords like many Leatherface songs. Of the three records posted here it is the band's self titled EP as well as the Health 7"  that shine brightest. All of Canadian Rifle's recordings have a fuzz-drenched, lo-fi sound but on the two records mentioned above the mixing captures a few more of the frills and subtleties that make Canadian Rifle so engaging: vocals slightly higher in the mix, with lyrical hooks that mesh well with the cadence of the music ("block, block") and high-end leads that break out of that fuzzy underbelly a little.  The entire discography is worth multiple listens but these two records match my qualifications for modern, classic American punk. "Hug My Blood", "Creep", "Cinder Block" on the self titled 7" and really all three of the tracks from Health are beacons in our dark, musical universe.

New Katorga Works Release: Avon Ladies - Guns & Gold 7"

Artist: Avon Ladies
Album: Guns & Gold 7"
Release: 2011
Label: Katorga Works

Tracklist:

1. Cyanide Lactater
2. Hang 'Em High
3. Quality Programming
4. Power Failure

Colman and I have released yet another record! Here is the stock description of it:

"A dark and twisted mess of a band consisting of the legendary h100s and the underappreciated-yet-awesome Pigeon Religion. With their unique and depraved brand of hardcore, Avon Ladies has become one of the most exciting bands to come out of the Arizona in a long time. We're not one to emphasize the prior acts that the bands we release are/were affiliated with, but this time we couldn't help it! Jacket will be printed with gold foil over the white on the cover."

This is one of our finest records, both in terms of music and packaging. You should act fast on this, because this one won't be around for very long. Or, just download it! Whatever. Either way, you should see the band play on their tour, where they should have these 7"s:

Wed. Aug. 10 / Chicago, IL @ The Dunk Tank / Manipulation, Rational Animals, Divine Rights, The Outs
Thurs. Aug. 11 / Columbus, OH @ Carabar / Cider, Vile Gash, Rational Animals, Human Boys
Fri. Aug. 12 / Cleveland, OH @ Now Thats Class / Ruiners (third show in 12 years), Vile Gash, Lucha Eterna
Sat. Aug. 13 / Pittsburg, PA @ Belvederes / Skull Fest III w/ Perdition, Midnight, Crazy Spirit, Cider
Sun. Aug. 14 / Philadelphia, PA @ Kungfu Necktie / Iceage, Nomos (2nd to last show?), Salvation, Give
Mon. Aug. 15 / Brooklyn, NY @ 538 Johnson / Dawn Of Humans, Nomos (last show?), Bortgang

Come out and witness the madness.
