Well, here's a surprise that shouldn't have actually been too surprising: Leather finally admits to themselves that they're a full-on rock band. Well, not entirely, but I've always felt their music hinted at something a bit outside of the hardcore realm (which they seem to have strayed from with each release, poseurs) and on Wretch, their first record on Fan Death, the band almost fully deviates from it, particularly on the A-side.
I suppose to achieve thematic continuity, the band put their most "out-there" songs on this side, not quite understanding how side lengths and speeds work, as they are also the two longest songs on the record and needlessly prevent the 7" from being 45rpm. Curse you, Leather! That being said, it makes sense and these two songs rule. And yeah, we get it singer-man, you are clearly a trained singer, because he does some shit with his voice that I couldn't even conjure up in my dreams. The B-side songs are shorter and more like their older material, furious. I think I actually prefer the A-side songs more, especially when he belts out his vocal parts. Those parts were my favorite from the last 7", as well.
Leather has an LP coming out soon, also on Fan Death. While I'm not entirely sure how it will sound, I am fairly certain it will be excellent.

Easy top 10 of the year. Best thing I've heard in a while.
