Okay, so it’s no secret by now: both we at ICDT and our readers/commenters are way down with most things shoegazey.

St. Petersburg, Russia’s Pinkshinyultrablast take their name from noisenik Scott Cortez aka Astrobrite’s record of the same name, but don’t head down the same path of lo-fi cacophonoy. Instead, they take the classic Creation sounds and add a hefty dose of punkish propulsion. “Blaster” is a pretty ideal opening jam, with Luba’s melodious voice floating over the effects-submerged guitar. “Deerland” naturally continues this formula, but offers a more demanding hook riff.

While this is possibly the post I’ve put the least amount of effort into writing up ever, please take this away from this: there are a deluge of shoegaze “bands” who pirate VST software for easy-bake Slowdive delay/reverb tones, add awkward programmed drums and throw a 70-minute record on Bandcamp calling it art. PSUB are four kids from across the world who can’t even get solid amplification because of shipping costs and eBay embargos, yet they still know how to keep things hooky, fresh and concise. They don’t reinvent any wheels, but they got heart. That counts.

This is the 2nd best shoegaze EP in existence. MBV's "you made me realize" is the best. but this comes really really close.
