Western Mass' second hardest band behind Hoax, Potty Mouth is an punky indie pop band of "4 grrls, 4 ever." I guess they are kind of self-fashioned as a riot grrl band, but I never thought much of the riot grrl revival, but whatever. I'm also getting a huge early Hole vibe, which is so welcomed, because that's some of my favorite music. It's just sloppily played, ultra-catchy pop with a punk edge. There's a pretty naive c86 twee pop vibe, as well, which are my favorite parts of this demo.
One of the things that drives this over the edge is the guitar lines, which I feel like are a big step up from normal fare of this type of music. The first two tracks, "Drip-Dry" and "Dog Song" are incredible and make the remaining songs pale in comparison. I LOVE these songs. The others are cool too, but I find myself listening to the first two songs on repeat. DOG SONG.
Quite the name, huh? If someone came up to me and asked if I had heard the new Potty Mouth tape, I'd say "no and I never will, fuck you." Well, clearly that's kind of a lie because I did end up listening to it and, gee willikers I'm glad I did! Still, they should change their name to one of these FAR superior names: Tanktop Trouble, Cool Chick #69, Maidenhead, Ruby Soho, Obama Youth, White Man, Hard Cell, and Lotus Fucker. Choose wisely, girls!
