Deformity is one of the more unique bands in the NYC punk realm in that they don't fit comfortably into the main few camps of the city's current scene, which might be because they're all of about eighteen years old (give or take a year) and can't yet party with the rest of 'em. The band started off in more conventional, raw punk territory, but as they've progressed as a band, they've branched out and turned into something entirely different. They're also remarkably into self-editing (more so than most bands their senior), as they've already aborted one 7" release (that, in my opinion, was really cool), and are always pairing down releases. All killer no filler, baby.

This release is a great introduction to the band's wild brand of punky hardcore. The title track is hands-down their catchiest and best song to-date. It also emphasizes the band's more recent obsession with noisy, guitar freakouts/wankoffs and is punctuated with a simple, naive solo. The b-side songs are a little less distinguishable, but are still rippers that are well worth your attention and money.

If you needed anymore of a reason to check this out, it was put out by La Vida Es Un Mus, one of the few labels out there that almost guarantees exceptional quality. Also, Always Restrictions is now 2/2 with their releases, as this 7" is a worthy follow-up to the first, obscure Dawn of Humans 7".

I saw this band play list at the Rank/Xerox show while I was vacationing in NYC. They were just fucking incredible. They took everything I liked about raw punk and distilled it into totally catchy blasts. They were the highlight of me as far as seeing shows in NYC goes. I bought the 7" as soon as I heard it was released and played it on my radio show in Davis, CA: http://www.kdvs.org/show-info/2276

Thanks for posting the .mp3 for this! Now I can listen to it as I ride my bike.
